If you believe in nominative determinism and worry about AI, now is the time to worry.
By executive order, Donald Trump ordered the term 'Artificial intelligence' to be replaced with the term 'Super intelligence.'
The White House says that AI systems are advancing exponentially. They "amplify human ingenuity."
There is a linguistic appeal to ego here.
Donald Trump might wish to say that it was "on his watch" that mankind first encountered the fruits of a radically different human future.
But won't super intelligence just be another nominative staging post. What next?
'Artificial Intelligence' then 'Super Intelligence' then 'Ruling Intelligence' then simply 'the one', 'overlord', 'god?'
SUPER INTELLIGENCE. nominative determinism, 명명 결정론을 믿고 AI를 걱정한다면, 지금이야말로 걱정해야 할 때다.
행정명령을 통해 도널드 트럼프는 'Artificial Intelligence'라는 용어를 'Super Intelligence'라는 용어로 바꾸도록 지시했다.
백악관은 AI 시스템이 EXPONENTIALLY 기하급수적으로 발전하고 있다고 말한다. AI는 amplify human ingenuity "인간의 창의력을 증폭시킨다."
여기에는 인간의 자아를 자극하는 언어적 매력이 있다.
도널드 트럼프는 인류가 완전히 다른 인간의 미래가 맺은 결실을 처음 마주한 것이 바로 자신의 "on his watch, 자신의 재임 중"이었다고 말하고 싶을지도 모른다.
하지만 super intelligence, 초지능 역시 또 하나의 nominative staging post, 명명법이 잠시 머무는 중간 기착지에 불과한 것은 아닐까.
'Artificial Intelligence', 그다음 'Super Intelligence', 그다음 'Ruling Intelligence', 그리고 마침내 단순히 'the one, 그 하나', 'overlord, 지배자', 'god, 신'?
