도둑질을 멈춰라
A hero needs an enemy. And Donald Trump, a billionaire and the most powerful man in the world, has many: China, the fake news media, NATO, all of the Clintons, big tech, and even the system of democracy itself.
Days after the January 6th protests he said,
"They rigged it like they've never rigged an election before." Rigged, stolen, theft, steal…
The president's English doesn't fear the direct accusation. Nor does he see modesty as a linguistic virtue:
He tells us: "I'm honest." That's how we know the election was rigged.
The president is "we". "We will never give up. We will never concede… We will not take it anymore…"
It's us against them. If politics is war by other means, as Bismarck said, Trump acknowledges this linguistically. Every sentence declares a war on bipartisanship.
He takes the fight to the enemy. Like all generals, he is also quick to acknowledge the bravery and principles of his own warriors:
"It's just a great honor to have… hundreds of thousands of American patriots who are committed to… the integrity of our glorious republic."
But is he making war on an invisible enemy?

대통령의 영어는 직접적인 비난을 두려워하지 않는다. 겸손을 언어의 미덕으로 여기지도 않는다.
그는 말한다. "나는 정직합니다." 그래서 우리는 이번 선거가 조작됐다는 것을 안다는 것이다.
대통령은 곧 '우리'다. "우리는 절대 포기하지 않을 것입니다. 절대 인정하지 않을 것입니다. 더 이상 참지 않을 것입니다."
우리와 그들. 비스마르크가 말했듯, 정치가 다른 수단에 의한 전쟁이라면 트럼프는 그것을 언어로 실천한다. 그의 문장 하나하나가 초당적 정치에 대한 선전포고다.
그는 적에게 정면으로 맞선다. 모든 장군이 그렇듯, 자신의 병사들의 용기와 신념을 치켜세우는 것도 잊지 않는다.

하지만 그가 싸우고 있는 적은, 혹시 보이지 않는 적은 아닐까?
