The word tautology is Greek in origin and means "to say the same thing".
Tauto — the same. Logy (logos) — word.
It gives clarity — it is what it is — or acts redundantly — free gift.
In reasoning, it works on assumption and provides no new information.
The president sometimes appears to act according to tautological reasoning. It is as if Whatever the president does is presidential…
So, being presidential, can president Trump just declare things into existence?
Neither Kyiv nor Moscow confirmed any formal "energy ceasefire." But the president disagreed.
Linguistically, cause and effect are one and the same. Tauto-logos.
But it bears no relationship to the result in the real world.
tautology라는 단어는 그리스어에서 유래했으며, '같은 것을 말하다'라는 뜻이다.
Tauto는 동일한 것이라는 뜻이다. Logy (logos)는 말 또는 언어를 뜻한다.
동어반복은 명확성을 높여 주기도 한다. 이를테면 "it is what it is: 그것은 그것이다"라고 말하는 경우다. 반면, redundantly 불필요하게 반복하는 표현으로 쓰이기도 한다. 예를 들어 'free gift: 공짜 선물'이라고 하는 경우다.
논리적 추론에서 동어반복은 assumption 가정에 의존하며, 새로운 정보를 전혀 제공하지 않는다.
대통령은 때때로 동어반복적 추론에 따라 행동하는 듯하다. 마치 Whatever the president does is presidential… 대통령이 하는 일은 무엇이든 대통령다운 일이다… 라는 식이다.
그렇다면 대통령다운 행동을 한다는 이유로, 트럼프 대통령은 그저 무언가를 선언하는 것만으로 그것을 현실에 존재하게 만들 수 있을까?
키이우도 모스크바도 공식적인 energy ceasefire 에너지 휴전에 합의했다고 확인하지 않았다. 그러나 대통령은 이에 동의하지 않았다.
